Central Oregon Locavore

Organic, transitional (depends on individual products)

Central Oregon Locavore is a small, homegrown nonprofit that supports local food and farmers through its year-round indoor farmer’s market and community programs. Locavore provides a provides a place for farmers, ranchers, and local food producers to sell their products directly to the community, allowing them to put more focus on improving organic and humane operations and less focus on product distribution. The Locavore marketplace serves as an educational gateway for the community to learn about the importance of supporting local food and farmers including the benefits to health, environmental sustainability, local economic impact, and food security. It is worth noting that at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, while most retailers were severely impacted by supply chain issues, Locavore did not experience any decline in supply or revenue thanks to its reliance on local production, and instead was reinforced as a bastion of food stability within the Central Oregon community. Beyond supporting local food production, Locavore’s strives to ensure that all members of our community have access to local and healthy food. Our minimal mark-up keeps prices low for consumers while allowing Locavore to pay a living wage to growers. The market accepts EBT and Farm Direct Vouchers, providing beneficiaries an additional 5% off their purchases. The marketplace’s operation is subsidized by Locavore's fundraising efforts, as it makes no profit of its own. While the organization has been operating since 2009, the brick-and-mortar market was opened in 2013. We operate with the vital help of volunteers, who are sought out, cultivated, and welcomed into the Locavore family, creating a culture of inclusion.
