The Farmer in Odell

(formerly Cody Orchards)

See growing practices below

Ricardo and Lisa own and operate a 14 tree fruit acre farm in Odell Oregon. We grow pears, apples, cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums and blueberries. The farm has a farm stand that runs July-Thanksgiving showcasing our produce and neighbor's products to round out the farm stand. We find selling to the public very meaningful and helps connect our physical work with families nourishing themselves in our community. We love bringing our produce to Central Oregon for new people to try!

Our farm utilizes Integrated Pest Management Practices. What this means is we work closely with partners to monitor pests and disease in the orchard. Over 90 % of the products we use are organic. A few tough troublesome issues, such as Fireblight, which is like cancer for orchards, we need to use non-organic products in junction with organic products to best protect our investment and future of the orchard. We have enjoyed partnering with Oregon State Extension to find alternative ways to deal with a very problematic invasive pest by using pheromone scented lures and releasing parasitic wasps. More bat boxes have been added around the farm to aid with codling moth numbers. Every year we add more plant diversification to support predator bugs such as praying mantis, lady bugs, yellow jackets, ear wigs, etc. It has been exciting to watch the battle between good and bad bugs. We love our land and make conscious decisions when it comes to production, fruit quality, and safety for everyone involved.
